How We Select Our Fragrances: The Eldora Curation Process

Every fragrance on Eldora's shelves has earned its place. We don't list products based on what's trending or what's cheapest to source. Our selection process is deliberate, rigorous, and built around one question: would we wear this ourselves?

Here's exactly how we evaluate every fragrance before it reaches you.

Step 1: Reference Accuracy

We start with the scent profile. Our team evaluates each fragrance against its reference — blind if possible — assessing how faithfully it captures the opening, heart, and dry-down of the original.

We're not looking for a perfect clone. We're looking for the feeling. Does it evoke the same mood? Does it carry the same character? A fragrance that smells 90% accurate but performs beautifully will always beat one that's technically closer but flat on skin.

Step 2: Longevity Testing

A fragrance that fades within two hours fails our standard. We test every candidate on skin — not paper strips — across different skin types and temperatures. Our minimum benchmark is 6 hours of noticeable projection, with a dry-down that lasts through the day.

We also assess sillage: how the fragrance moves through a room, how it lingers on fabric, and how it evolves over time. A great fragrance tells a story from first spray to last trace.

Step 3: Ingredient Review

We review the ingredient profile of every fragrance we consider. We look for:

  • Cosmetic-grade, IFRA-compliant compounds
  • Absence of known sensitizers at unsafe concentrations
  • Stability — no separation, no discoloration over time
  • Skin compatibility across a range of skin types

We don't carry fragrances that cut corners on ingredients, regardless of how accurate the scent is.

Step 4: Packaging and Presentation

Fragrance is a gift — to yourself or someone else. The bottle, the cap, the box: all of it contributes to the experience. We evaluate packaging for quality of materials, seal integrity, and the tactile impression it makes when held.

A premium fragrance deserves premium presentation. We won't compromise on this.

Step 5: Customer Feedback Loop

Once a fragrance enters our collection, the evaluation doesn't stop. We track customer feedback, monitor return rates, and pay close attention to repeat purchase behavior. If a fragrance consistently underperforms in the real world, it leaves our collection — regardless of how well it tested in-house.

This feedback loop is one of the most important parts of our process. Our customers are our most rigorous testers.

What Doesn't Make the Cut

To be transparent: the majority of fragrances we evaluate don't make it into our collection. Common reasons for rejection include:

  • Scent that diverges significantly from the reference in the dry-down
  • Poor longevity on skin despite strong initial projection
  • Ingredient profiles that raise skin safety concerns
  • Packaging that feels inconsistent with a premium experience

Our Commitment

When you buy from Eldora, you're buying a fragrance that has passed every stage of this process. We stand behind every product in our collection — and if something doesn't meet your expectations, we want to know.

Curation is never finished. It's an ongoing commitment to quality, and it's the foundation of everything we do.
